O’Shea is deserving winner of World masters darts title at Circus Tavern Purfleet.

John O’Shea who was a deserving winner of the World masters championship with a 6-4 win over Scott Waites

A truly outstanding weekend for the Irish at the World masters darts championship was brought to thrilling finale as local boy made good, John O’Shea took the final by the scruf of the neck as only he can and outshone two- times World champion and former masters champion Scott Waites of England by 6 sets to 4 in what was a pulsating final.

O’Shea who I have known since his early childhood days, began in whirlwind fashion leaving Waites trailing as he went into a 2 -0 lead.

However a missed attempt at double 14 which would have seen him go 3-0 ahead saw Waites then take it and then tie the match 2-2 but there was no holding O’Shea as he again edged ahead as he won the following set to make it 3-2.

John missed a double 20 to go 4-2 ahead and had to watch as Waites hit his doubles to level 3-3 but Seboy again dug deep to forge ahead once more and again Waites squared the match at 4-4 but it would be his last winning set.

John hit a double 16 to take the advantage once more at 5-4 and he then kept his composure as Waites missed to hit a double 10 for a truly deserved win.

Mention also to youngster Ciarán Teehan who has made many across the water sit up and take notice with his outstanding performances of recent times.

Teehan had a magnificent weekend at the Circus Tavern and enhanced his growing stock as he reached the quarterfinals where he went down to Welshman Michael Warburton by four sets to two.

Well done also to Kilkenny’s Keith Geraghty who went out fell in the final 16 to Warburton.
